The Noble Circle Project: A Community of Women Surviving Cancer

Programs and Events

The Programs of the Noble Circle Project bring together women who are recovering from or living with cancer or a history of cancer.

  • The Core Program is a weekend retreat at the Oakwood Retreat Center in Selma, Indiana, about a 90-minute drive from Dayton. This retreat is followed by 10 weekly classes, Thursday, 5:30-9:00 pm, held at One Lincoln Park in Kettering. At the retreat and during the 10-weeks of classes, participants are immersed in a novel experience to learn about themselves and their health.

  • This core program is supported and enhanced by ongoing activities including a Monthly Alumni Gathering. Participation in the Alumni Gatherings is limited to women who have participated in the core program of a weekend retreat and 10 weeks of follow-up classes.

  • Special Events are focused on fundraising to support the Noble Circle Project and cancer research. The highlight of this fundraising is the annual “A Wear Affair” fashion show luncheon.

Retreats and Classes

The Noble Circle Project retreats and classes provide information about a wide variety of healing approaches with special focus on a healthy diet, exercise, and group support.

  • A healthy diet is fostered through whole-foods education classes, shared meals, and instruction on following an organic, whole-foods diet.

  • Exercise is fostered through the practice of Qigong (pronounced “chee gong”), an ancient Asian healing art that promotes an increased awareness of energy and body movement. Its techniques are simple, yet effective.

  • Group support takes place within a circle of caring and supportive individuals. Each participant has opportunities to share her story, and to learn how to deal with the difficult emotional issues that accompany a cancer diagnosis. Topics of discussion will include coping with fears of relapse, making decisions about treatment, sad feelings concerning the potential loss of life and leaving behind loved ones and children, how to make life-style changes that last, and how to develop a strong sense of self-confidence, hope, and positive outlook.

The retreat also offers times for fun and relaxation with complementary massage, reflexology, Reiki, and other therapies. Retreat participants return home with tools to nurture their own optimum health through daily practice of a healthy diet and healing movement.

Following the retreat, the Noble Circle experience continues with 10 weeks of classes to provide additional opportunities to practice qigong as a group, learn more about whole foods and other complementary healing options, and to further group support. For alumni of the core program, monthly gatherings are held throughout the year to foster an ongoing support network, and the opportunity to share information and healing exercise.
